A New Pravda

Pravda Café has transformed into Wellington’s premium steakhouse becoming Pravda Café & Grill.

> MORE DETAILS

Pravda is a sibling to the iconic Jervois Steak House restaurants in Auckland and Queenstown, and executive chef Gareth Stewart is bringing the same focus on exceptional red meat that JSH is renowned for to the capital’s newest steakhouse.

Working closely with his trusted suppliers Neat Meat, Stewart has put together a menu that’s tailor made for those who are serious about good meat. Diners will be able to select from Wagyu beef raised in New Zealand, Japan or Australia; dry-aged, grain-finished Wakanui beef ribeye on the bone will also star. Other larger cuts, including prime rib, Angus T-bone and Taupo Beef Chateaubriand, are perfect for sharing, along with a bottle of red from the restaurant’s thoughtfully compiled wine list.

“I’m really excited about bringing a premium steakhouse to Wellington,” says Gareth. “I’ve visited farms all over the country to find the best products for Pravda, and am confident that we’ll be serving the best cuts in the capital.”

During the day, Pravda will retain its focus on modern, produce-led café dishes and perfectly brewed coffee, while by night the space’s vaulted high ceilings, crystal chandeliers and expanses of marble and dark wood will create the perfect setting to enjoy steak, oysters, beef tartare, duck confit and pork belly.

Complementing the high-end butcher’s block offering will be classic and contemporary sauces and butters (from Café de Paris to smoked garlic and mushroom), while side dishes such as beef dripping chips or Yorkshire pudding with onion gravy will make the experience even more memorable.

For those who want something lighter, Pravda Café & Grill is also introducing a menu of contemporary bistro dishes, with spring dishes including salt and chilli squid with pea guacamole; and seared kingfish with tomato and pickled mussels.
